In Uganda, The AIDS Support Organisation (TASO) piloted community client-led ART delivery (CCLADs), which was subsequently endorsed by the Ministry of Health and implemented nationally. CCLADs were originally designed to increase the capacity of community drug distribution points (CDDP), an out-of-facility ART distribution model run in the same area.  A CCLAD is a group of people living with HIV from the same geographical area, who are organised into a peer support group of five to ten members. The group selects a peer leader who is responsible for collecting 3-monthly ART refills for the whole group from their nearest CDDP. The peer leader distributes the refills to the CCLAD members at the agreed community venue, documents the distribution and monitors the treatment amongst her peers. Every six months, the full group attends the CDDP where they are seen individually for clinical consultation by the mobile outreach team.
